DISSOLUTION

There are several ways in which you can terminate a marriage or domestic partnership:

dissolution, legal separation, and nullity. While some people prefer to start with legal separation and wait and see if they can work on their differences, many choose to move forward with the divorce.

Legal separation date is an important date because it is used to determine when community ceased to grow.

Once a judge signs the formal divorce judgment, parties return the “single” status as of the date listed on that form. However, no divorce judgment will be granted in less than six months after filing the petition for dissolution.
